Cowboys Ex Aikman, Buck, Tequila and Broadcasts

Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have enjoyed the occasional tequila cocktail in the booth while calling games.

DALLAS - Joe Buck admitted that he and Fox NFL broadcast partner Troy Aikman have enjoyed the occasional tequila cocktail in the booth while calling games.

On a podcast appearance with Colin Cowherd, Buck divulged he would drink the "biggest beer the stadium sold" during his coverage of postseason baseball. When Aikman joined him in the booth for football, the drink got stronger.

"Because Troy is a man of finer tastes, beer somehow became tequila, Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice," said Buck.

The liquid courage was a great reminder for the duo to relax and have fun. As the lead Fox broadcast crew since 2002, Buck and Aikman have spent plenty of time in the booth together and the camaraderie has become a pleasure for (most) viewers.

"We haven’t done it in a long time now, but it was good for a stretch, and I feel like it’s a good mental trigger to just chill and remind yourself that you’re not refueling a F-16 in mid-flight," said Buck. "You’re doing a sporting event, and if you treat it like anything other than that you’re doing yourself a disservice.”

Aikman, the Dallas legend who led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl rings and four consecutive NFC championship games, is outspoken, opinionated but largely respected by sports fans. Buck is not universally-beloved, with a cult following of dislike that he seems to embrace.

Yet we would argue these two humanizing themselves makes them all the more likable. And we'll toast to that.
