Cowboys Ex Aikman Fires Back At NFL Network

Conspiracy theories aside, there is a simple reason why Troy Aikman is critical of Jared Goff's play

FRISCO - Troy Aikman has built a reputation as an NFL analyst without bias - sometimes to the point where fans of the Dallas Cowboys wonder if the Hall-of-Fame QB dislikes his former team.

In this latest case, Jared Goff - formerly of the Los Angeles Rams - wonders if the Fox Sports star dislikes him.

Aikman is rebutting an allegation made by NFL.com reporter Michael Silver, who spoke to Goff about his trade from the Rams to the Lions and wrote that the QB felt “blindsided” by what Silver described as a “disrespectful divorce strategy.”

Part of Silver’s story suggested that Goff feels Rams coach Sean McVay was using Aikman to publicly criticize the quarterback.

“Routinely trashed this season on FOX telecasts, specifically those with Troy Aikman as the lead analyst, Goff could reasonably assume that McVay’s words about his quarterback’s play in network production meetings were far from glowing,” Silver wrote.

Aikman does not find that to be "reasonable'' at all, per his response to Sports Illustrated’s Jimmy Traina.

“Unlike Michael Silver, I strive to be fair and balanced and do not have an agenda when doing my job,” Aikman said. “The record will show that I have been a strong supporter of Jared Goff’s over the years. Unfortunately for the Los Angeles Rams and Jared Goff, he did not perform at his best in games that I broadcasted this season and I’m confident Jared would be the first to agree.”

The relationship between McVay and Goff is of course among the reasons the Rams just engineered a blockbuster trade that involved Goff going to Detroit in exchange for Matthew Stafford.

Goff said that he was looking forward to joining an organization that “appreciated” him.
