Dallas Cowboys EXCLUSIVE: Charlotte Jones Reacts to 'Humbling' 'Salute to Service Award' Nomination
FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys executive Charlotte Jones has been announced as the franchise's nominee for the “Salute to Service Award presented by USAA,'' an award that honors a league member who "demonstrates an exemplary commitment to honoring and supporting the military community.''
“It is humbling just to be included with such a great group of nominees across the NFL that all share a deep sense of appreciation and respect for our service members,'' Jones tells CowboysSI.com in an exclusive interview. "For me, this is focused on the men and women who stand with courage, make the sacrifice and serve our country in order to protect us and maintain the freedoms and liberties that we all enjoy as Americans.''
Among Jones' passionate causes is The National Medal of Honor Museum. Jones was instrumental in securing Arlington, Texas as the NMOHM home and now serves as Chairman of the NMOHM Foundation, with her goal to build a permanent home to honor these heroes.
“The National Medal of Honor Museum celebrates the actions and legacies of the bravest of the brave,'' Jones tells us. "It provides a way to celebrate and honor them in perpetuity, while educating generations about what the Medal of Honor recipients have done to defend our way of life and live with great character and commitment to our country.”
Jones' leadership led to a notably successful fundraising campaign to privately fund the museum, including a personal $20 million contribution from the Jones Family Foundation. And now her push through the NMOHM to construct a Medal of Honor monument in Washington "has connected both sides of the aisle, receiving what unprecedented unanimous bi-partisan approval from Congress,'' notes her "Salute to Service Award'' profile.
The final recipient of the "Salute to Service Award'' will be recognized at the NFL Honors show, which is set to air the week of Super Bowl. Cowboys fans can vote for Jones with a visit to NFL.com/SaluteFanVote from now until November 30.
