'They Deserve It!' Cowboys Fans Most Worthy of Super Bowl - David Carr

Entering the 2023 season and looking to claim a sixth Super Bowl, Cowboys fans are named the most deserving fan base.

Like clockwork, every offseason we hear fans of the Dallas Cowboys claiming this is "their year" to bring home the sixth Lombardi Trophy in the franchise's illustrious history.

Of course, it hasn't been their year - your year - for quite a while. It hasn't been your year for 28 years, to be exact, with the last Super Bowl win coming all the way back in 1995. Despite that, though, fans still go into each season believing that this is the one that ends the drought.

That pure devotion to their team, regardless of their shortcomings since, is what makes you a fan, after all - and exactly why NFL.com's David Carr named the Cowboys' fan base the most worthy of a Super Bowl in 2023.

"High expectations hover over the Cowboys annually, and no one in that franchise or fan base is shy about the desire to earn a sixth Lombardi Trophy -- especially owner Jerry Jones," Carr said. "Dallas has had the firepower to give itself a chance at its first title in nearly three decades, but major blunders have abruptly ended those aspirations. The constant emotional roller-coaster is almost too much to take."

Those major blunders Carr's referring to came in the last two playoff losses in back-to-back years against the San Francisco 49ers, both of which ended in ... disappointing fashion, to put it kindly.

However, those losses are in the past and there is plenty of reason to see the Cowboys as a serious contender to win it all this season. From top to bottom they have put together one of the best rosters in the league.

Offensively, the trio of quarterback Dak Prescott, receiver CeeDee Lamb and running back Tony Pollard fuel one of the NFL's best offenses. On the other side of the ball, the duo of linebacker Micah Parsons and cornerback Trevon Diggs terrorize opposing quarterbacks.

It's interesting that Carr tabs Dallas fans as "deserving,'' considering how many franchises have never won anything. But that "constant emotional roller-coaster,'' in part the result of the franchise's pedigree and in part due to Salesman Jerry Jones? That is very real.

There is no way of knowing how well the Cowboys will play this season, or how poorly for that matter. The talent is there, though, to bring home Lombardi No. 6 - and give the fan - you - what you "deserve.''
