Cowboys ‘Tyron Smith Insurance’: Former Trade Target Chuma Edoga Signs in Dallas
The Dallas Cowboys added a depth piece on Tuesday as that the team has inked former New York Jets/Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Chuma Edoga on a one-year deal.
Capable of playing on both the inside and outside of the offensive line, Edoga was - as CowboysSI.com reported at the time - previously sought by the Cowboys when Tyron Smith went down with a long-term training camp injury. Smith's fellow USC alum entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick with the Jets and landed with the Falcons in August after he was part of Gang Green's final training camp cuts.
Edoga appeared in two games last season, notably partaking in every offensive snap for the Falcons in their November win over Chicago. He dealt with knee injuries for most of the season and has appeared in 26 games overall between New York and Atlanta with 13 starts to his name. Edoga also earned second-team All-Pac-12 honors prior to his collegiate departure in 2018.
While Edoga, 25, is primarily listed as a tackle (where he could provide a sense of experienced insurance for Tyron Smith, who is back with the Cowboys on a restructured contract), he could truly help with the relatively depleted guard picture, one that just lost Connor McGovern, the primary starter at left, to Buffalo. … all depending on whether Tyler Smith starts at guard or tackle.
In the end … options … and insurance.
