Cowboys Ex, Bucs Star Gerald McCoy Retires: ‘I Had A Blast!’

Six-time Pro Bowler, 12-year NFL veteran, and former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Gerald McCoy have announced his retirement from the NFL.

Former star defensive tackle and Dallas Cowboy Gerald McCoy has announced his retirement.

The Oklahoma Sooner was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and would have a productive career during his Bucs tenure.

McCoy had 59.5 sacks during his career, recording six Pro Bowl seasons, and was a three-time member of an All-Pro team as a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

In 2020 the Cowboys signed McCoy to a three-year, $18.3 million contract. Unfortunately, on the first day of camp, he sustained a quad injury leading to his release, and negating his contract.

Though McCoy's name cant be found on any Dallas stat sheets due to the injury, he sustained, immediately after signing with them, his contributions to coaching up younger teammates on the Cowboys roster at the time earned him the respect of Cowboys Country.

This morning he announced his retirement while guesting on the Carton Show.

"I've been playing football since I was 7 years old, and it’s been a huge part of my life. I worked extremely hard to live out my dream in the NFL," McCoy said.

"I played 12 long seasons in the NFL. I love my football life, but every great thing comes to an end, and I’m officially announcing my retirement. I had a blast. Anybody who had anything to do with my career. I say thank you. I Love you and Football; thanks so much."

Entering the next phase of his life, McCoy looks forward to spending more time with his kids and hopes to continue in sports media.
