Cowboys Goof: Dak Omitted From 2021 'Hype' Video

In truth, there is a "story here.'' But there is no backstory, no ulterior motive, no secret message. The Cowboys just goofed.

FRISCO - Shortly after Super Bowl LV on Sunday night, the Dallas Cowboys posted a "hype'' video on social media designed to get Cowboys Nation revved up about the coming 2021 NFL season.

The 32-second video featured a wonderful array of highlights featuring the likes of Amari Cooper, CeeDee Lamb, DeMarcus Lawrence and Jaylon Smith. But ...

"This was simply an oversight that should have been caught and corrected by us,'' said Derek Eagleton, the DallasCowboys.com Director of Media and Programming, calling it "an honest mistake.''

That's pretty much obviously true. While Prescott is not yet under contract for 2021, he is in the team's plans and is the centerpiece of almost everything this marketing-minded franchise does, on and off the field.

Additionally, it would be moronic for the Cowboys front office to try to send some "message'' in this way - to Prescott or to Cowboys fans.

So, it's a "mistake.'' An "honest mistake.'' But not a tiny mistake, in that it fuels the fire of conspiracy theorists and side-takers who either love or hate the player or the team. Eagleton recognizes that.

"Anyone who’s making it seem like Cowboys’ decision-makers use social-media videos to make statements doesn’t understand or take the time to understand how it all works,'' said Eagleton, who I know to be the highly-conscientious boss of one of the most talented departments of its kind.

"Trust me, there’s no story here."

In truth, there is a "story here.'' But there is no backstory, no ulterior motive, no secret message.

The Cowboys just goofed. That's not a good thing. But that's all that's happened here.
