Rivalry Renewed: Cowboys 7-Point Favorites As Dallas To Host Packers In Wild Card Round

The Dallas Cowboys will begin their playoff run with a home game against the Green Bay Packers on Super Wild Card Weekend.

The Dallas Cowboys have won the NFC East and clinched the second seed in the conference, giving them at least one much-needed home playoff game.

With the late-window games all wrapped up, the Cowboys now know that they'll begin their playoff run against the No. 7-seed Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card Round.

Two of the NFL's most storied franchises, the Cowboys and Packers have been at each other's throats since Dallas entered the league in 1960. While these two teams haven't met since November of 2022, a 31-28 overtime win for the Packers, there's certainly no love lost in this rivalry.

Dallas and Green Bay have met eight times in the playoffs, with each team winning four games. Recently, though, the Packers have been the bane of the Cowboys' existence in January.

In the 2014 Divisional Round, the Packers beat the Cowboys 26-21 after a crucial fourth-down pass from Tony Romo to Dez Bryant was ruled incomplete. Then in the 2016 Divisional Round, Green Bay knocked off Dallas once again with a 34-31 last-second win, spoiling a magical 13-3 Cowboys season with then-rookies Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott leading the way.

Of course, there's also the storyline of longtime Packers coach Mike McCarthy now being on the Cowboys' sideline. The man who led the Packers to both of those previously-mentioned playoff wins and won a Super Bowl in AT&T Stadium will now be trying to take down the team he coached for nearly a decade.

"The drama of it, I'm sure you guys will love," McCarthy said postgame. "I will not participate in it. ... It's playoff time. It doesn't matter who we play, to be honest with you."
