'A Match Made in Hell!' Bill Belichick Coaching Jerry Jones' Cowboys Rumor Reaction from Shannon Sharpe
FRISCO - Before the clock struck zeros at AT&T Stadium on Sunday, rumors were already swirling about the fate of Dallas Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy.
After the game, speculation exploded. Dallas lost to the upstart Green Bay Packers 48-32 in the Wild Card round of a playoffs that were supposed to see the Cowboys go deep.
And now Shannon Sharpe wants a piece of the action.
Will it cost McCarthy his job? If so, who will replace him?
There are tons of options for Cowboys owner Jerry Jones as he weighs his options. One name that is swirling for not just he Cowboys job, but several others, is six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach, Bill Belichick.
During an appearance on ESPN's First Take on Monday, Hall of Fame tight end and current NFL analyst Shannon Sharpe described that marriage as a "match made in hell."
“Man, do you not understand that Coach Belichick wants authority?” asked Sharpe. “Can you imagine Jerry Jones trying to hold a press conference and tell what’s going on with the team — and you think Coach Belichick is gonna sit idly by and let Jerry do that? Absolutely not. It would be the worst …
"It’s a match made in Hell. You couldn’t pick a worse match than Jerry Jones and Coach Bill Belichick."
Sharpe also cites precedents for the potential failure.
Said Sharpe: “There’s a reason he got rid of Jimmy (Johnson). He got rid of Bill Parcells. Do you understand? Coach Belichick learned under Parcells. Jimmy and Coach Parcells and Coach Belichick are more alike. And once he got rid of Parcells, what has he done? Hired the Chan Gaileys, hired the (Dave) Campos, the Jason Garretts, hired the Mike McCarthy, Wade (Phillips) — he don’t want that type of coach. He wants to be able to do everything. He wants to be the face of it …”
Sharpe doesn't have all of his facts straight here. He lacks knowledge about the departure of Johnson and Parcells. The suggestion that other hires have been Jones puppets is an ignorant cliche. And people who are actually inside The Star can tell you that "Jerry wants to do everything'' is an ancient myth.

But that doesn't mean he's wrong about this particular marriage rumor.
Reports are that Belichick wants full control at his next stop - just as he had in New England. And further reports indicate that was part of the reason he left, as ownership asked him to give up full control.
Jerry and Bill a "match''? We might be about to find out.
