Cowboys Jerry Jones Life & Times: Hollywood Plans 'Deeply Personal' Docu-Series

Cowboys exec Charlotte Jones calls the project focusing on her famous father Jerry “a very special and deeply personal project” that will “take sports fans, fans of business, families, and everyone watching on an adventure like none other.”

FRISCO - The story of Jerry Jones is too expansive to tell in just one story.

That's one of the lessons to be learned from the new partnership between NFL Films and Skydance Sports as they work together to produce what they say will be a “defining” docuseries about the Dallas Cowboys and the team’s owner.

“Jerry Jones is an incomparable figure,'' said Jesse Sisgold, president and COO of Skydance. "With the Dallas Cowboys, he has built the world’s most valuable sports franchise and has undeniably transformed both modern football and the sports business at-large. It is an honor to commemorate his journey and that of his dynasty by partnering with the Jones family, the Dallas Cowboys organization, and NFL Films to bring this uniquely American story to life.”

"A Football Life'' is the standard blueprint for such productions. But Jones' "remarkable rise from the son of an Arkansas community store owner to being one of the most innovative and influential leaders in sport,” as the press release puts it, requires more elbow room for the tale to be told.

The production will apparently feature legendary Cowboys like Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith, but also power brokers like the media mogul Rupert Murdoch.

Said Ross Ketover, senior executive of NFL Films: “NFL Films coined the term ‘America’s Team,’ so having this first project be about the biggest brand in all of sports is perfectly fitting.”

Skydance's recent film projects include "Mission: Impossible,'' "Star Trek,'' "Top Gun,'' "Terminator'' and the recent Michael Jordan backstory movie "
Air.''

Cowboys exec Charlotte Jones said of the project focusing on her famous father “a very special and deeply personal project” that will “take sports fans, fans of business, families, and everyone watching on an adventure like none other.”
