Cowboys 'Right Opportunity' for J.K. Dobbins Signing, Says Dez Bryant
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are, however casually, "shopping'' for a running back in NFL free agency.
The big names like Josh Jacobs, Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley are gone. The lesser lights (Zack Moss was too expensive?) are going.
But maybe A.J. Dillon is coming. Or maybe J.K. Dobbins is coming.
We know that the Green Bay Packers' Dillon is "looking'' at Dallas ... maybe until he sees the minimal offer the Cowboys might present him. And now we know that Dez Bryant is endorsing another lower-tier guy - and doing so with some sound reasoning.
"I know (he's) hungry and destined for a big season with the right opportunity," Bryant wrote of the rehabbing Ravens back Dobbins. "A lot of those young guys will see first hand what hard work looks like."
There are some things to unpack there. Dobbins, maybe elbowed out of Baltimore due to the Henry deal, might have to sign for a minimum salary deal because of a long injury history that will keep NFL teams from investing big money in the former second-round pick, who missed all of the 2021 season with a meniscus injury and almost all of 2023 after an Achilles tear suffered in Week 1 against Houston - which happens to be his hometown.
The rehab process is reportedly going well; but how well? How soon?
Is this a vet's minimum $1 million deal? Buy low, hope high?
Do Cowboys Want to Re-Sign Ezekiel Elliott?
And finally, to Dez' remarks: Do some Dallas players need to see "first-hand'' what hard work looks like? Is that a reflection of an area in need of a boost inside The Star?
The Cowboys right now are looking at a roster with Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis as the most legit options at running back along with (fullback?) Hunter Luepke. They're only interested in backs that will sign for really cheap deals, potentially minimum salary contracts.
