Cowboys Ex Kellen Moore Issues Bold 'Jet Stream' Promise with Chargers
The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to lift their offense to the next step toward a Super Bowl, and they've hired new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to pilot the movement .. and the former Dallas Cowboys assistant is talking colorfully about the progress.
"We have so much height on this team, we're going to be throwing in a different jet stream," Moore said.
Moore, who is joining the Chargers after serving in that same coordinator role for the last four years with the Cowboys, is not prone to bold pronouncements; when he uses the word "awesome!'' - which Kellen tends to do a lot - he is generally at the height of his boldness.
So what is the former Dak Prescott mentor, now in charge of guiding Chargers QB Justin Herbert, talking about here?
He's talking about the "jet stream'' that is literally higher than a normal "flight route'' because of the height of his Charges weapons on offense. It starts with Herbert, who stands 6-6.
And it continues with Herbert's targets. The receivers room, which is keyed by Keenan Allen (6-2), also includes Mike Williams (6-4) and rookie Quentin Johnston (6-3). The Chargers also have size with their tight ends in Gerald Everett (6-3) ... and certainly most notably, in Donald Parham (6-8).
Moore, during his playing days as a QB, needed to be wearing his cleats and thick socks to reach his listed height of 6-0. So the "jet stream'' wasn't his thing as a player. But as he shifts from coach Mike McCarthy's Cowboys to the Chargers - who happen to play each other this year on the night of Oct. 16 in L.A. - it's Kellen's thing now.
