Cowboys vs. Raiders Live Blog: Dallas Wins

Quarterback Will Grier played his heart out in his last dance with the Dallas Cowboys against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Dallas Cowboys found themselves facing off against the Las Vegas Raiders in each team's preseason finale on Saturday at AT&T Stadium in what would be a 31-16 win ... and an eventful thing at that. How'd we get there? Follow along!

Ahead of the NFL's 53-man roster deadline, last night, the Cowboys traded a fourth-round pick for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance, the No. 3 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. 

Following that trade, it was announced that Dallas would be allowing third-string quarterback Will Grier to play the duration of this finale in an attempt to showcase his abilities to all of the other organizations across the league since his spot on the Cowboys now belongs to Lance. 

First Quater

Will Grier starts the game off with a bang! On second and seven, he converts with Jalen Brooks for 11 yards to pickup a fresh set of downs at the Dallas 41

Off to a hot start, Grier continued his momentum by completing a pass to Dontario Drummond for 13 yards.

On second and seven, Grier has his first incompletion of the game to Brooks. On third down, Grier throws it to Brooks again for 16 yards.

After some ugly penalties, Dak Prescott managed to call of the right plays for Will Grier to lead a scoring drive. Grier rushes for two yards into the endzone to give the team a 7-0 lead.

Raiders' First possession of the Half, 9:25 remaining in the first quarter 

Raiders got three and out 

Cowboys Ball back 1:58 remaining in First Quarter

Grier continues his hot start passing to Luke Schoonmaker for five yards, and follows it up with a seven-yard pass to Houston. For the first down. 

From the Dallas 35, Luepke rushes for eight yards. Grier converts for 12 yards to McKeon for 12 yards picking up a fresh set of downs. 

On second and 10 from Las Vegas 41 yard line, Grier overthrows a wide-open Tyron Johnson for a would-be touchdown as the drive stalls and Brandon Aubrey misses the field goal from 59 yards out

Raiders Ball with 3:57 remaining  in the first quarter Dallas leads 7-0

On second down O'Connell converts to Wilkerson for six yards. On third down Keldon Joseph lines up offsides for the Cowboys, extending the Raiders' drive by giving them a new set of downs from the Dallas 40-yard lane.

From first and 10 at the 40, Zamir White rushes for three yards to the Dallas 37.  O'Connell then throws an incomplete pass before rushing for four yards on third down. Facing fourth and three, Vegas calls a timeout with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter. back from the timeout, Vegas converts on a pass to Wilkerson for nine yards. 

White rushes for four yards to the Dallas 20. before two penalties push the team back to the 25 as the first quarter comes to a close. 

Start of Second Quarter, Dallas Leading Vegas 7-0 

On third and 21, O'Connell converts to Wilkerson for 10 yards. Daniel Carlson kicks a 65-yard field goal to tighten the contest. 

Cowboys Lead 7-3 Over Vegas 14:09 remaining in the first half

A few passes advance the ball to a fourth-and-one situation, where Luepke picks up three yards for the first down up to the Dallas 37. 

A pass from Grier to Malik Davis picks up 10 yards to the Vegas 44-yard line. 

On first down, Davis rushes for three yards. On third and seven, Simi Fehoko picks up 16 yards for a first down to the Vegas 25. 

Fehoko gets nine yards on first and 10 up to the Vegas 16-yard line. On second and short, Luepke gets the first. 

From the nine-yard line, Schoonmaker runs a naked route for nine yards and scores a TOUCHDOWN! Aubrey hits the point after attempt.

Dallas leads 14-3 over Vegas with 7:51 remaining in the first half

Vegas takes a touchback. Williams rushes for six yards. Wilkerson catches a pass from O'Connell for 15 yards up to the Las Vegas 46. 

On first and 10 Williams rushes for six yards up to the Dallas 48. Vegas spends its second timeout. 

Tucker catches a pass for 11 yards up to the Cowboys 37-yard line.  Rookie Tight end catches a pass for 13 yards up to the Dallas 24. 

TOUCHDOWN. Vegas tightens up the ball game following a 24-yard rush from Williams for the score. Carlson hits the point after. 

Vegas Scores Cutting Dallas' Lead 14-10 with 4:38 Remaining in the first half

Following a touchback, on third and nine on what looked like a dead drive, Grier scrambles for a physical rush that gains 17 yards. 

A penalty pushes the Cowboys back to first and 20, and a pass to Malik Davis gains no yards. Back to Davis, a draw earns him 10 more yards...OH NO, A holding penalty on Sean McKeon forces the Cowboys back to second and 25 as the two-minute warning goes into effect. 

Back from the break, Luepke picks up some positive yardage. On third and 15, Grier gets it done with his legs and physicality yet again. rushing for the first. 

Luepke is playing like he expects a role in the regular season. On consecutive plays, he catches the ball for a combined 44 yards and a touchdown!

Dallas Leads 21-10 over Vegas with 50 seconds left in the first half

A pass from O'Connell to Wilkerson picks up 13 yards to the Dallas 44-yard line. Following a spike and consecutive incompletions, Carlson comes back onto the field for a 62-yard field goal attempt! Aaaaaand it's good! The Pro Bowler proves he's ready for the season

Cowboys Lead 21-13 over the Raiders at Halftime

The second half begins with a pass from O'Connell to Keenan Cole for nine yards. Williams picks up a first and then some, gaining 20 yards and marching up to the Vegas 49-yard line. 

O'Connell passes to Horsted for 14 yards, up to the Dallas 36-yard line. Jesper Horsted gets the ball again for seven yards, but the drive stalls. Carlson comes out and nails a 50-yard field goal. 

Raiders cut Cowboys lead 21-16 with 11:07 remaining in the third quarter

Following a touchback, Grier completes a pass to Johnson for 16 yards. At the Dallas 41.

Malik Davis with a HURDLE! 13-yard rush for the first down. Dallas advances the chains up to the Vegas 44. 

The ball goes to Luepke for 11 yards. Then a pass to Jalen Moreno-Cropper for 12 yards up to the Vegas 20. A pass to Fant advances it for eight yards.

On the next series, Grier Scrambles for a TOUCHDOWN! 

The quarterback is 23-28 with 219 passing yards and two passing touchdowns, but his legs have also added 56 yards on sic carries for an additional two scores

Dallas Leads Vegas 28-16, 4:29 remaining in the third quarter

The Raiders begin this drive with a touchback. A Pass to McCormick goes for seven yards, followed by a 12-yard completion to Wilkerson up to the Vegas 44-yard line. 

A catch by Cam Sims for gains 22 yards on a third and four. The Raiders are now at the Dallas 28.

Phillip Dorsett gains four yards up to the Dallas 14-yard line on a reception. McCormick gets slammed by Butler third quarter comes to a close. 

Dallas Leads Vegas 28-16. Entering the Fourth, the Raiders are in the Redzone

On third and six from the 14-yard line, Dorsett gains four yards. On fourth and two, the Raiders go for it, but a pass goes incomplete to Wilkerson.

Dallas Gets the ball back on their own 10-yard line leading 28-16 with 14:25 remaining in the fourth quarter

After picking up the first on a string of completions, Grier launches it 29 yards to Johnson. Cowboys at the Vegas 49-yard line. 

On third and 10, Grier completes a pass to Johnson for nine yards up to the Vegas 40. Facing fourth and one, Davis converts by rushing for a tough two yards up to the Vegas 38 thanks to a second burst effort. 

FUMBLE! Grier bobbles the snap but recovers, and Dallas is pushed back to their own 48. On third and 19, Grier passes to Jose Barbon for 7 yards and out marches kicker Brandon Aubrey. THE KICK IS GOOD! Aubrey hits from 59 yards. 

Cowboys lead Vegas 31-16 with 7:55 remaining in the game

Another touchback to start the Raiders drive. Out comes Chase Garbers at quarterback. He completes a pass to Horsted for seven yards on second down, then another to Wilkerson for the first, up to Vegas 41-yard line. The backup is showing his arm on a long ball to Wilkerson for 29 yards. up to the Cowboys 19-yard line.

The Raiders get the ball up to the Dallas 12-yard line, but ultimately the drive stalls as they turn the ball over on downs yet again. 

Cowboys Ball, leading the Raiders 31-16 with 2:54 remaining 

Luepke starts the drive off by rushing for two yards up to the 24, then rushing again for an additional three yards as the game winds down to the two-minute warning. Fresh out of the two-minute warning, Grier throws it to Johnson for 33 yards up to the Vegas 40-yard line. Now Grier is just kneeling the game away from victory formation. 

A tremendous game from Will Grier, completing nearly 83 percent of his passes, having 358 yards of total offense, and four total touchdowns. There isn't much more he could've done tonight to prove he belongs in the league on someone's team.
