'We're NFL's Best Defense!' Micah Parsons' Cowboys Seize Giants Soul in Blowout

Mike McCarthy's theme for the season, "Carpe Omnia,'' translates to "Seize Everything," and the Dallas Cowboys did just that in a blowout win over the Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys  obliterated the New York Giants to the tune of a 40-0 thumping at MetLife Stadium as the roster took coach Mike McCarthy's "Carpe Omnia'' theme to heart and seized Brian Daboll's team's soul on Sunday Night Football.

"Carpe Omnia.'' That was McCarthy's message for the week and theme for the season. And what is Micah Parsons' "statement'' after this "statement'' win?

“I think,'' Parsons said, "we’re making a statement that we’ve been trying to make: We’re the best defense in the National Football League.”

There were a lot of questions surrounding Dallas coming into the game. Was Mike McCarthy's 'Texas Coast Offense" going to click? Was coordinator Dan Quinn's defense a better unit than last season?

Well, it took just one quarter for that to be answered. Dak Prescott and the offense didn't really have to do much, though Prescott loved having new play-caller McCarthy calling the shots.

“It was great,” Prescott said to NBC. “Something that I look forward to, he has a great way of keeping our tempo going in the huddle, outside of the huddle. He knows what he wants to do, it’s fun. Just getting started.”

While the offense's stats don't jump off the page as Dak completed 13 of 24 for 143 yards as Dallas complied just 265 yards of total offense, there were certain situations where McCarthy's situational play-calling came to the fore.

But for all the talk of what McCarthy's new offense could look like, it was Quinn's defense that obliterated a sadsack Giants offense.

Daniel Jones would finish the night by completing just 15 of his 28 passes for 104 yards and two interceptions ... and he was also sacked seven times.

The Cowboys defense forced five fumbles on the night as they simply didn't allow the Giants to get any rhythm going. It was a brutal beatdown that had Giants fans heading for shelter from the rain and for the MetLife exits to begin the third quarter.

The Cowboys heeded McCarthy's season theme here, as Dallas took anything and everything it wanted from New York in devastating fashion. And they lived up to Micah's billing as well. "Carpe Omnia'' is part of how, as of right now, the Cowboys really are the NFL's best defense.
