Cowboys Legend Emmitt Smith Rips Dallas: 'No Love' for Cut Ezekiel Elliott

When the Cowboys announced they would be releasing Ezekiel Elliott, Emmitt Smith made his displeasure with the move well-known.

While the release of Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott marks the end of an era, it also reflects a growing belief in the NFL: running backs are expendable and can easily be replaced.

After all, Elliott's running mate Tony Pollard out-gained him on the ground this season, 1,007 yards to 876, while also being dangerous in the passing game with 371 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Simply put, the writing was on the wall for Elliott when Pollard was franchise-tagged. However, while the release of Elliott felt inevitable, Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith is not happy with the news.

Smith used an Instagram post to voice a passionate disdain for Elliott's release.

“This is why, the NFL stands for 'not the law," Smith said.  "Everybody else go get your money because they have no love for you.”

Some might argue that it's hard to see where Smith is coming from in this instance regarding the finances, as the Cowboys once made Elliott the highest paid running back in the NFL - and have seen him earn the second most of any running back in NFL history at $70.7 million, behind only Adrian Peterson's $103 million career earnings.

Whenever a franchise and a star player part ways there are sure to be those who feel strongly in either direction about the news. We're not sure that in Elliott's case, this represents a lack of "love" from the Cowboys. ... but Emmitt's passion? We do appreciate that.
