Cowboys' Luke Schoonmaker: Playing vs. Jags in Preseason Opener?
Well, it took a while, but we finally had a Luke Schoonmaker sighting at Dallas Cowboys training camp as the rookie was this week involved in practice for the first time in Oxnard.
After dealing with a partial tear to his plantar fascia, Schoonmaker, a second-round pick out of Michigan, has been on the sidelines taking mental reps, but with the Cowboys activating him from the Non-Football Injury list, he got the pads on and went to work.
With such a long layoff, Schoonmaker's first practice of the offseason was surely used to knock the rust off. But he hit the ground running and even has sights on being involved on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars at AT&T Stadium.
"I just know that this week is definitely gonna be some positive stuff," Schoonmaker said. "I'm hoping I can go this weekend, but we'll see."
And so we will. He is playing a preseason game … the Saturday opener at home against the Jaguars.
Sitting on the sidelines and taking mental reps for the majority of the preseason, how did it feel to finally get the pads on and play football again?
"It felt great, especially going from doing the rehab, it's the next step to coming back and putting it all together," Schoonmaker said. "It felt great to play football together, and be out there and run fast."
With Schoonmaker now getting his feet underneath him from a physical standpoint, the tight end looks to make up for lost time, and if he has his way, the first opportunity might come Saturday at 4 p.m. when the Jaguars visit AT&T Stadium.
