Cowboys Meet Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Who Throws Darts at NFL Combine
FRISCO - In a weird twist, the Dallas Cowboys have not conducted a formal meeting with the top-rated first-round running back prospect Bijan Robinson of Texas ...
But they have conducted such a get-together with the No. 2-ranked prospect at the position, the dual-threat running back from Alabama Jahmyr Gibbs.
And one more twist: What was included in Dallas' session with Gibbs, who led the Crimson Tide with 926 yards on 151 rushing attempts for 6.1 yards per carry as well as seven touchdowns?
They asked him to "throw darts.''
Literally.
Gibbs (5-9, 199) has been compared to NFL stars Alvin Kamara and Dalvin Cook in part because of his ability as a receiver. Gibbs, in addition to his rushing prowess, led Alabama in receptions with 44 for 444 yards and three touchdowns.
Writes DallasCowboys.com's Hailey Sutton: "Jahmyr Gibbs says he has met with the Cowboys, and would love the opportunity to play in Dallas,” Sutton posted. “Credits his college RB coach and former Cowboys running back (Tashard Choice) for his success at the college level.”
And in his meeting with Dallas? Gibbs said he played "darts.''
Gibbs figures as a high second-day pick, though because of his size, there are skeptics. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein, for instance, doesn’t see him as an “every-down” back.
In Dallas, meanwhile, the Cowboys are preparing to retain Tony Pollard (likely using the franchise tag) and are preparing a goodbye to Ezekiel Elliott - or at least a goodbye to his existing contract.
Changes are coming in the Dallas running backs room ... and Gibbs would, in his own words, "love'' to be a part of those changes.
