Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons: 'Big-Time' - And 'Still Growing!' - Coach Mike McCarthy
It might not be your match, but it can be your moment.
And for Dallas Cowboys "Lion-Backer" Micah Parsons, while he didn't have the jump-off-your-screen performance against the Los Angeles Chargers, when his team needed him to make a play, he did.
After Dak Prescott and the offense put Dallas up by three with a little over two minutes left in the fourth quarter, it was up to the defense to close the game out.
On a second-and-10, Parsons broke through a double team and sacked Justin Herbert, and on the following play, Stephon Gilmore intercepted a pass to end the game.
For coach Mike McCarthy, Parsons stepped up when a play needed to be made.
“I think it speaks to him,” McCarthy said. “It speaks to the responsibility that he has. He’s an elite player, big-time player, I know he’s young. He’s still growing. The play needed to be made, and he went out and did it.”
Parsons finished the game with eight pressures, a sack, and three quarterback hits as he now leads the NFL in pressures (38) through six games.
With Micah becoming one of the most feared defensive players in the NFL, part of that is delivering in those big moments.
Parsons was barely sighted against the San Francisco 49ers (he wasn't alone), as he had zero tackles for loss and no quarterback hits or sacks.
But against the Chargers, when his team needed him to be the dominant defensive star he is, Micah answered the call.
“If you look at the history of this league, that’s when those caliber of players usually step up," McCarthy said.”
And Micah's thoughts on his play?
"Any time I get an opportunity in the game, I'm waiting for them," Parsons said. "I feel like that's my moment. That's what my teammates are looking for me the most. It feels good to come up big for them."
It wasn't his match, but when Micah's moment came along, he made sure it counted.
