What’s Micah Parsons ‘Tapping Into’? Dallas Cowboys Star Reveals Injury Update on Knee & Ankle for 49ers
Few things can silence a stadium and a living room quite like an injury to a team’s best player.
On Sunday, Dallas Cowboys superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons hobbled off the field against the New England Patriots. He spent time getting medical attention for a hurting knee and ankle. Dallas’ 38-3 win allowed fans to look to next week before halftime, but thinking about a crucial matchup with the San Francisco 49ers without Parsons was nightmare fuel.
Thankfully, Parsons was able to return to Week 4’s blowout, even if he clearly wasn’t playing at 100%. Head coach Mike McCarthy didn’t seem too concerned about the ailments, but there’s nothing better than the primary source.
“It was definitely a banged-up game,” Parsons said.
He generated 10 pressures in what would be a partial day of work for Patriots quarterback Mac Jones. He wasn’t able to add to his sack total, but he was the game-wrecker he’s become accustomed to being.
“Honestly, after getting my treatments and doing the extra work I need to go to get prepared for this game,” Parsons continued. “I feel really great and high-spirited right now.”
The Cowboys are going to need Parsons to continue his quarterback-shattering pace on Sunday Night Football. San Francisco has Dallas’ number in recent years and, at 4-0, is tied for the conference’s best record. A Week 5 win could put Dallas in control of their own destiny, with two games against the Philadelphia Eagles yet to be played.
The 49ers will present another challenge to Parsons and the pass rush—their quick game. Only four starters (one being Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott) average less time to throw than quarterback Brock Purdy’s 2.56 seconds.
“I’ve been tapped into my mode all week,” Parsons said. “I feel great. I’m ready to kind of get after it now … Cowboys-49ers. There’s nothing better.”
If Parsons is as healthy as he seems, he’ll be a full-go for Sunday and, likely, enough of a force to give Dallas a shot. We’ve seen teams unafraid to run the ball in his direction, though, and San Francisco isn’t scared of leaning on its vaunted rushing attack.
Don’t be surprised if a Cowboys’ victory has Parsons’ fingerprints all over it.
