Cowboys' Michael Gallup Has 2 New Surgeries; Is WR OK?
Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup went under the knife again on Tuesday after spending much of the 2022 season recovering from an ACL tear suffered in Week 17 of the 2021 season.
Gallup reportedly underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee and to clean up his right ankle. He should be cleared for football activities before April.
Gallup signed a five-year, $57.5 million contract last offseason while recovering from the ACL tear, and it can be argued is under pressure to perform. He entered the 2022 season injured and was expected to be the Cowboys' No. 2 wideout after the trade that sent Amari Cooper to Cleveland. But after missing the first three games of the season, he appeared to struggle at times and managed just 34 catches for 424 yards and four touchdowns.
In the Wild Card game against the Buccaneers, Gallup caught five balls for 46 yards and one touchdown but failed to catch any passes against the 49ers in the Divisional Round loss.
Gallup now faces another offseason of recovery and expectations for him to be better. With CeeDee Lamb improving as the season went on and young players like Jalen Tolbert expected to improve, competition in the receiver's room could increase.
Dallas has the offseason to consider bringing back Noah Brown and T.Y. Hilton who are both free agents. ... or to look for "bigger fish,'' all while hoping Gallup returns to top form.
