'I'm 100% Mentally!' Michael Gallup Confidence 'Rebuilt' as Cowboys Open Camp

Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup is more time-removed from his ACL injury, and as he enters training camp in full health, it is all above the shoulders as he looks to re-establish himself in the offense.

OXNARD - Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup is feeling like himself again. After a down season last year, as his comeback from an ACL injury was a slow grind, many thought Gallup's time was up.

But as we enter Cowboys training camp, the talented receiver is finally in the right place mentally, and he says, ready to roll.

"Mentally, it's up there to 100 percent," Gallup said as he arrived in Oxnard. "Last year, the 'mentals' obviously weren't there. I knew my leg was good, I knew I was straight, but I still had to get over that hump. So definitely, this offseason, and coming out here to [2023] training camp and being able to go Day 1, this'll be good."

With Gallup clearly struggling last season mentally as the comeback from his injury took a toll, the biggest challenge was restoring his confidence.

Last season, Gallup totaled a career-low in receiving yards (424) and yards per game (30.3) as he looked to get over that mental hurdle. That proved difficult as he was expected to hit the ground running in the post-trade absence of Amari Cooper, and when good performances weren't forthcoming, those mental demons started wreaking havoc.

But now, by his own admission, his confidence has been restored.

"I've already done that," Gallup said. "I've done that. That's what we had OTAs and stuff for. I've definitely rebuilt it."

With CeeDee Lamb establishing himself as the true No. 1 receiver and with the addition of Brandin Cooks, Gallup is perhaps getting overlooked by some critics.

It is worth remembering that when healthy, he was a 1,000-yard receiver in 2019, and if he can get back near that level of performance, then he will prove to be a useful weapon for Dak Prescott.

Training camp has a lot of storylines, but one that might have gone unnoticed is fully fit and mentally ready Michael Gallup, who looks to show the world that he is a force to be reckoned with. ... "100 percent.''
