Cowboys' Michael Irvin 'Praying' for Troubled Chandler Jones of Raiders
NEW YORK CITY - On Friday's edition of "Undisputed,'' Fox Sports analyst and Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin stated with his usual passion that he "praying" for Jones over his troubling behavior issues while expressing concern that the Las Vegas Raiders veteran pass-rusher might not be on a good mental place at this time.
"I’m praying for Chandler Jones, I wish this would’ve been handled more privately. I’m worried about him and send him our best," Irvin said. "I'm worried about him.''
What is "this'' that Irvin, the legendary Dallas Cowboys leader, referring to?
Jones, the former first-round pick of the New England Patriots and an All-Pro edge rusher, is in conflict with the Las Vegas Raiders and his coach Josh McDaniels. Jones is posting on social media that he doesn't want to play for the Raiders if "that is my head coach or GM.''
What is Jones' specific problem with McDaniels and Las Vegas general manager Dave Ziegler? He posted something about having to "work out at a local gym'' instead of at the team facility, claimed that the Raiders are in contact with an ex-girlfriend of his (for reasons unknown) and offered evidence that the team recently sent a fire-and-rescue person to his home as a sort of wellness check.
"You need to come with us,'' Jones quotes the attendant as saying. "You're in danger.''
The Raiders - who Jones posted should be coached by defensive coordinator Patrick Graham and not by McDaniels - play the Denver Broncos in Week 1. McDaniels was calling the situation as "day-to-day,'' which is obviously understating the problem that exists in Las Vegas between two prominent figures ... as now the club has announced that Jones will not be playing this weekend.
