Dak Prescott ‘1 Flaw’ - What Cowboys Coach Mike McCarthy is Doing to Help

Mike McCarthy will be calling plays for the first time in Dak Prescott's career next season, and the Cowboys coach says he'll be more involved in offensive meetings in an effort to help Prescott.

FRISCO - If there's one flaw to Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott's game, it's turnovers. More specifically, interceptions.

Last season, Prescott was tied for the league lead with 15 picks despite playing in just 12 games.

And Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy is here to help.

At the NFL Annual League Meeting in Phoenix earlier this week, McCarthy told CowboysSI.com and a small group of reporters that he has addressed the issue with Prescott.

"Definitely, we spent some time," McCarthy said. He was in for the captains workouts (earlier this month). So he came up and spent about four hours with (quarterbacks coach) Scott (Tolzien) and I. And we went back and looked at his decision-making opportunities and the interceptions and potential interceptions and just talking through it."

Granted, some of Prescott's interceptions didn't appear to be all his fault, as some were a result of either bad routes by the receiver, or flat-out drops into the arms of a waiting defender.

But many were due to poor decisions on the part of the eighth-year veteran quarterback.

McCarthy will be calling plays for the first time in Prescott's career next season, and the Cowboys coach says he'll be more involved in offensive meetings in an effort to help Prescott.

"It's healthy," McCarthy said of evaluating the interceptions. "The room will be different.”

McCarthy also thinks helping Dak stay healthy next season will be key to a successful offense.

"My goal is for Dak to play 20 games next year," McCarthy said. "If he plays 20 games next year, obviously, we'll be right where we want to be."
