Cowboys 2-Round Mock Draft: Dallas Picks Rising WR with No. 1 Potential

It remains intriguing to participate in the spirit of mock draft season and see who the Dallas Cowboys could get depending on where they focus their first-round priority.

It remains a lengthy wait to see which route the Dallas Cowboys will go when the 2023 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 27.

But for now, it remains interesting to participate in the spirit of mock season and see who the Cowboys could get depending on where they focus their first-round priority.

So what about receiver? Or cornerback?

In a recent two-round mock draft from The Draft Network, the Cowboys waste no time acquiring another play-maker alongside CeeDee Lamb, as they make an upside pick with their first selection.

No. 26 - Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College

Flowers is an electric receiver who has had quite the ascension since college football ended. In 2022, he finished with 78 catches for 1,077 yards and 12 touchdowns, including five multi-score games.

While he did more than enough to give himself a solid selection cushion in the draft, rising all the way up to a first-round projection seemed a bit too unrealistic when the season first ended.

And while Flowers still might end up falling to the second round due to some of the receivers projected to be taken ahead of him, it doesn't take away from the fact that his elite run-after-catch ability, quick-twitch speed and nose for the end zone makes for a receiver that can put up big numbers in the NFL, particularly for a Dallas offense set to undergo some scheme adjustments.

Combine all this with his visible competitiveness and confidence, and Dallas fans might warm themselves up to the thought of Flowers in a Cowboys jersey.

No. 58 - DJ Turner, CB, Michigan

The Cowboys have managed to win big with most of their cornerback selections in recent drafts, as rookie Daron Bland led the team in picks last season while Israel Mukuamu made a noticeable impact as well. It's best to not have similar expectations immediately, but Dallas looks to do the same in this scenario by picking Turner at the end of the second round.

Dallas lost cornerback Jourdan Lewis, a fellow Wolverine, to a Lisfranc injury he suffered in late October that ended his season. He was coming off a career year in 2021, but got the worst end of the injury bug.

Anthony Brown, who tore his Achilles this past season as well, is set to enter unrestricted free agency and has a cloudy future in Dallas.

Adding Turner to a young, but budding secondary that could be without some familiar faces could prove to be smart move for the future. On an ultra-competitive Michigan team that competed at one of the highest levels in the country the past two seasons, Turner totaled 69 total tackles, 17 passes defended and three interceptions during his time in Ann Arbor.
