'New Toy': Cowboys Projected To Draft Texas WR To Help Dak
The Dallas Cowboys already hit the jackpot in drafting a University of Texas star in this past draft in linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, and one of the latest mock drafts has them dipping back into the Longhorn pool.
Going into this spring, there had been many discussions as to who will be the second guy behind CeeDee Lamb for the Cowboys. Michael Gallup has shown flashes of being "that guy" but has also missed a handful of games over the past couple of years. Dallas traded for Brandin Cooks this past offseason to give Dak Prescott more weaponry as well. And second-year guy Jalen Tolbert is developing.
But based on CBS Sports' latest mock draft, some think they need another pass-catcher to bolster their receiver corps. Chris Trapasso has the Cowboys taking star Texas pass catcher Xavier Worthy, citing that he would have a great chance to learn from Cooks, writing, that Worthy represents "pure speed for the Cowboys offense who can lean on the wealth of knowledge that is Brandin Cooks at wideout."
Lamb's contract does expire after the 2024 season and he will demand a lucrative payday, but this would be no "changing of the guard pick'' in Dallas. ... but rather, a supplementary move.
Worthy (6-1, 172) is ranked as the No. 50 prospect in the class, and the No. 8 wide receiver according to CBS Sports. He offers blazing speed and elite route-running but has been plagued with some drop issues. However, he has still been one of the more productive pass catchers in the country.
Throughout his career thus far, Worthy has hauled in 134 catches for over 1,900 yards, and 22 touchdowns. Scouts say he has an innate ability to get open and if the evaluation is right, could add to one of the best receivers rooms in the NFL,
