Cowboys Nemesis Aaron Rodgers Trade OFFICIAL - But Move to Jets Puts QB on Dallas Schedule
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are not completely done dealing with Aaron Rodgers, even though as of Monday the MVP QB is officially departing the NFC to take up housekeeping with the AFC's New York Jets.
The long-anticipated swap sees the Green Bay Packers moving on from the iconic (but perennially unhappy) Rodgers with ESPN breaking down the compensation thusly:
The Jets, trying to finally make their move up in the AFC East get: Rodgers, plus pick No. 15 in the first round, plus a fifth-round pick (No. 170).
The Packers, who will now start a new era with Jordan Love as their QB, get: Pick No. 13 in the first round, a second-round pick (No. 42), a sixth-round pick (No. 207) and - most key - a conditional 2024 second-round pick that becomes a first if Rodgers plays 65 percent of the plays.
That last factor is an important one as Rodgers is 39 years old and, as evidenced at times in the 2022 season - with one large exception being the day he shocked the Cowboys by playing well in Green Bay's upset win over favored Dallas at Lambeau Field - when he wasn't quite the same player who has won four MVP awards.
Rodgers has spent the last few offseasons trying to work his way out of Green Bay, and in recent weeks has worked with the Jets to make roster moves that please him. And to the Cowboys? Yes, he's out of the conference, meaning he can no longer victimize Dallas at his usual rate. (His "usual rate'' adding up to an 8-3 lifetime record against "America's Team.'')
But ... the bad news for the Cowboys? A glance at the 2023 NFL schedule shows that the New York Jets are slated for a regular-season visit to AT&T Stadium ... meaning yet another encounter with their nemesis - who will show up simply wearing another shade of green.
