Red, White & Blowout: Dallas Cowboys Lead New York Giants 28-0 in Dominant First Half
ARLINGTON - The Dallas Cowboys entered Sunday's home game against the New York Giants as 17.5-point favorites, the largest spread in the NFL this season.
Through the first half, it's very apparent why the spread was that wide. The Cowboys have been all over the hapless Giants, leading 28-0 heading into the locker room.
Honestly, that score doesn't even tell the full story. What might do a better job is the fact that Dallas - in this "red, white and blow out,'' with "America's Team'' wearing its special helmet stripe to recognize Veteran's Day and "Salute to Service'' - has 368 total yards and 20 first downs, compared to 26 yards and one first down for New York.
It wasn't a perfect first half for the Cowboys, as there were a couple notable blunders. The first came on their opening drive, when Tony Pollard couldn't get in on a fourth and goal from the two. The second came in the form of a pick that quarterback Dak Prescott threw at the end of the first quarter, which set the Giants up in the red zone, although the Cowboys would force a fourth-down stop of their own. Aside from that, though, it's been pure football bliss in Dallas.
Disregarding the interception, Prescott had a very strong performance with 18 completions on 24 attempts for 239 yards and two touchdowns, plus another score on the ground. Brandin Cooks has a team-high seven receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown, while Jake Ferguson also scored in the first half. Pollard and Rico Dowdle have combined for 98 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Meanwhile, the Giants' battered offense struggled to do much of anything. Third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito, making his first NFL start after injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor, completed four of nine passes for 24 yards. New York's running game was equally as ineffective, gaining 12 yards on 10 carries.
The Cowboys will be on defense to start the second half as they look to continue suffocating the Giants' offense.
