'Test Me!' Can Cowboys CeeDee Lamb Burn Jets' Sauce Gardner?

Dallas Cowboys receiver CeeDee Lamb is hoping to show just how good he is against a top corner in the New York Jets' Sauce Gardner.

The Dallas Cowboys blew out the New York Giants in their first game of the season by a score of 40-0, but their passing game was fairly underwhelming.

That game script was dictated by the score, of course. However, with their Week 2 game against the Zach Wilson-led New York Jets following an early injury to Aaron Rodgers taking place Sunday, the Cowboys offense might have a chance to let it fly. ... Something that wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is hoping happens, so he can showcase his talent level against one of the best corners in the league in Sauce Gardner.

“Test my abilities,” Lamb said of his plan, “and see where I am ... and make a statement.”

When talking about what it means to have Garnder covering him, Lamb revealed he takes it as a compliment and embraces these chances.

"Always a testament to your position,” Lamb said. “Obviously, Sauce had a lot of success last year, and he’s a great DB. And [fellow Jets cornerback] D.J. Reed, I played him in college, so I’m very familiar with him. I look forward to games like that, matchups like that.”

Even despite the terrible weather in Week 1, Lamb recorded a team-high four catches for 77 yards while operating in the Dak Prescott-led "Texas Coast Offense,'' which figures to get unveiled a bit more in Week 2, even with the Cowboys as 8.5-point favorites.

Said Prescott: "I'm looking forward to it, but I wouldn't mind another 16-point lead ... You get to keep some of your tricks in your bag and not show everything that you need to (in a blowout). But knowing we'll be playing indoors and knowing it's going to be better conditions, and to get the passing game going, yeah, a lot of excitement."

And maybe a lot of CeeDee Lamb vs. Sauce Gardner at one of those "tricks.''

The Cowboys will wear their usual white jerseys for the first five games of the season before putting on their Color Rush uniforms for Week 6 at the Chargers. Week 14 versus the Eagles will also see the Color Rush sets; Navy jerseys will be worn in Week 8 (vs Rams), Week 17 (vs Lions), and Week 18 (at Commanders). The team will sport a “throwback navy” look on Thanksgiving when they host Washington.
