Did Dallas Cowboys Destroy Daniel Jones & Entire New York Giants Season?
FRISCO - It started in Week 1, with a New York Giants home loss to the Dallas Cowboys by a 40-0 score. And in the Big Apple, it's mostly been downhill from there, this assumed contender on Monday night in Week 4 getting pounded at MetLife Stadium 24-3 by the Seattle Seahawks.
This is a league of parity. New York being 1-3 does not automatically mean the season is over. But in the NFC East, the Eagles are 4-0 and the Cowboys are 3-1 ... while in New York, QB Daniel Jones and coach Brian Daboll are almost throwing things at each other on the sideline as Jones was in this outing in the process of getting sacked 11 times while getting pressured on 28 of his 42 dropbacks ...
With an interception by Seattle rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon off a bad Jones ball being returned 97 yards for a touchdown.
Daboll was asked what Jones' assignment was on that play. His snarky response?
“Obviously,'' he said, "not throw an interception.”
What did Dallas start? New York has now played two home games. The Giants have been outscored 68-3 in those games. Three points? That's the fewest scored for a team to start the season's home games in over 40 seasons.
Oh, and how did New York get its one win? With a miraculous comeback against the lowly Cardinals.
We will suggest here that in Week 1, Dallas destroyed the Giants. And their QB. And their season.
How bad is the hole? New York has been outscored 77-9 in the first half of games this year ... meaning Daboll is "obviously'' not doing a good job, either.
The Cowboys presently have a major challenge on their hands. Week 5 takes Dallas to San Francisco. The 49ers are unbeaten this year and are 2-0 in two years of playoff meetings with the Cowboys.
Inevitably, the schedule will ease up. Not that the Cowboys should overlook any opponent - a recent failure at Arizona surely taught them that - but the Giants are on the schedule again, Nov. 21 at AT&T Stadium should be interesting .. if the Giants even bother to show up.
