Dak Prescott OUT for All Cowboys Preseason Games?
The Dallas Cowboys are prepared to pay quarterback Dak Prescott. But Dallas might not be prepared to play Dak Prescott.
As the coaching staff is installing its "Dak-friendly'' "Texas Coast Offense,” it is also weighing the risk/reward of needing to see him perform in any of the three preseason games.
This is an every-team/every-year debate. And coach Mike McCarthy is now saying that while a final determination has not been made, he is “leaning” against the idea of letting Prescott - who may soon get a new contract extension that makes his health even more vital - play.
The decision here will surely lead to yet another round of silly criticism of what Prescott and Cowboys are doing. For Dak’s part, speaking generally? He is aware of the “15 interceptions” thing and he talks openly about it. And yet he seems unworried about all of the “outside noise.”
“I believe I have the highest expectations for myself .. (higher) than anyone does. That holds me to a high standard,'' Prescott said. “Obviously, me coming from a year last year, leading the league in interceptions and not performing the way I wanted … I’ve always been a fighter. …”
Good. At the same time, as we’ve long argued, meaningless exhibition games are no time to expose invaluable players to that fight. So … maybe it’ll be “See you in September” for Dak - as we believe it should be.
