Cowboys & Eagles Each Keep Coach; Mike McCarthy & Nick Sirianni Right Move?
The Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles largely went step-for-step with each other this season ... and opted for similar avenues with their head coaches following premature playoff exits.
Just days after Dallas confirmed it was bringing back coach Mike McCarthy for a fifth season on the sidelines, Philadelphia appears to have done the same.
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni is scheduled to meet with the media Wednesday alongside general manager Howie Roseman, signaling Sirianni's expected return.
Questions arose surrounding Sirianni's job status following Philadelphia's late-season collapse, which included six losses over the final seven games and was capped by a 32-9 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wildcard round.
In his three seasons at the helm, Sirianni's guided the Eagles to a 34-17 regular season record headlined by three playoff appearances. Philadelphia's twice lost to Tampa Bay in the wildcard round but made the Super Bowl in between.
It's a similar story for McCarthy, who's 42-25 in Dallas with three consecutive 12-5 regular season - but he's just 1-3 in the playoffs and hasn't made it past the divisional round.
The Cowboys' season came to a disappointing end the day before Philadelphia's, as Dallas suffered a 48-32 home loss to the No. 7 seed Green Bay Packers.
In six matchups since Sirianni took over as the Eagles' head coach, the Cowboys have a 4-2 record against their rivals with two NFC East titles.
Neither Dallas nor Philadelphia has won a Super Bowl under its current head coach, and following early playoff exits this season, had to decide whether it felt that could change moving forward.
Evidently, both teams felt confident - the Cowboys in McCarthy's regular season acumen and the Eagles in Sirianni's near-Super Bowl last season.
Cowboys Rival Could Hire Ron Rivera in NFC East Coach Shuffle
With continuity at the top, Dallas and Philadelphia will enter next season expecting to fight for the NFC East crown once more - but have plenty of questions to answer once the postseason rolls back around.
