Cut or PUP? Cowboys Make Jourdan Lewis Move at Camp

There is $4.7 million to be saved by cutting Jourdan Lewis. But regarding Cowboys moves here at camp in Oxnard? That’s not it.

OXNARD, Calif. - There has been speculation that the Dallas Cowboys could move on from longtime veteran defensive back Jourdan Lewis. But speculation aside, we told you that as of Monday here in Oxnard - on the eve of this week’s training camp - the next move coming is reflective of Lewis’ injury status.

Lewis is still rehabbing from foot injury (Lisfranc) he sustained last season and the Cowboys plan is to put him on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list, a team source told CowboysSI.com.

And now, on Tuesday, that move has been made.

Meanwhile .. The 33rd Team is among those who’ve been calling for Dallas to release the productive third-round draft pick from 2017. time Pro Bowlers,” The site’s Jeff Diamond recently wrote. “Lewis looks like a cap casualty.

There is $4.7 million to be saved by such a move. And there is the emergence of last year’s rookie, DaRon Bland, who could make Lewis less necessary to the roster. Additionally, of course, the Cowboys have standouts Trevon Diggs and Stephon Gilmore as their starting cornerbacks and they believe they are developing some depth there as well.

So a Jourdan Lewis move might happen. But the one on the horizon is about his injury and it’s about PUP.
