Cowboys QB Dak Prescott 'Needs to Own the Offense' - Coach Mike McCarthy; 'Best-Ever Season'?

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott enters next season with big expectations. From the outside, Emmanuel Acho believes Dak is poised for his best-ever season. And what does coach Mike McCarthy say from the inside of The Star?

FRISCO - Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has his fair share of detractors. After back-to-back 12-win seasons that yielded painful playoff losses, many were coming for the head of Prescott.

But Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy thinks a great deal of "the head of Prescott.''

"You cannot challenge these guys enough,'' said McCarthy, comparing Prescott to the cerebral former Packers QB Matt Hasselbeck. "Changes, adjustments, input ... the QBs need to 'own the offense.' ... It's not about me ...

Dak, McCarthy said of dealing with the challenges, especially with the install of the new West Coast Offense, "has knocked it out of the park."

Not everyone is a believer. But while some are still waiting to see Dak fall, but not player-turned-analyst Emmanuel Acho thinks Prescott is set for his best-ever season.

“Call me crazy, but I think Dak Prescott will have the best year of his career this year,” Acho said on FS1's Speak. “Dak Prescott has never thrown for 5,000 yards, I think he will eclipse that this year. I think about the explosion of the Cowboys' offense. This is the most explosive offense Dak Prescott has ever had ...

“A burner and touchdown machine CeeDee Lamb, a burner in Brandin Cooks, a touchdown machine and home run threat at running back (in Tony Pollard). ... I think Dak Prescott has the best season of his career.”

Dak is coming off being the joint leader in interceptions last season (tied with Davis Mills on 15) and threw two more in the playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers, so we imagine that Prescott will at least be better in that category.

But as far as the "best-ever" season? Dak's best to date is his 2021 campaign that saw him throw for 4,449 passing yards, 37 touchdowns (a franchise record) and just 10 interceptions as he led the Cowboys to an 11-5 record.

Could Prescott better those numbers? It's feasible, given the weaponry at his disposal and with coordinator Dan Quinn's defense leading the NFL in takeaways in back-to-back seasons, Prescott could gain extra possessions in most games.

With all the "Dak hate" floating around, it is refreshing to see the other side of it from the media. But it's even more important to hear what McCarthy has to say about his QB "owning his offense.
