Cowboys Run-Stopping Trade Idea: Grover Stewart from Colts?
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys entered the offseason engineering a pair of helpful and affordable trades, acquiring wide receiver Brandin Cooks from the Houston Texans and cornerback Stephon Gilmore from the Indianapolis Colts.
How about one more pre-NFL Draft swap?
Even with the re-signing of Johnathan Hankins, a commonly held view is that Dallas could use help on the interior of the D-line to play alongside Osa Odighizuwa. And one media outlet says is a logical landing spot for a relatively below-the-radar defensive tackle in Grover Stewart of the career with the Colts.
Stewart (6-4, 315) is 27, has missed only two games in his six-year career and is coming off his best season yet, with four sacks.
Do the Colts - who could clear $9.6 million in cap space in a deal - want to "sell high'' as they work to rebuild?
Indy could look at Stewart this way: He's in the final year of his deal playing for a Colts team that might be the NFL's worst. Why not swap him for future help?
The Dallas part of the equation is easy, assuming it's a mid-round pick to be sacrificed. Financially, it can be considered a "rental'' with a $9 mil base salary. And on the field? Stewart's 69.0 defensive grade from PFF for the 2022 season places him higher than any Cowboys defensive tackle ... reason enough to give this concept a look.
