How Big a Failure Is Dallas Cowboys At San Francisco 49ers? CeeDee Lamb Reacts

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb's Week 5 postgame comments were very telling. … and a bit filthy.

How'd the game get out of hand so quickly? "Wish I could tell you,” he said.

What's the identity of the Cowboys' offense? "I don't know,” he said.

How do you fix the issues on offense? "I don't know,” he said.

Dallas had boasted that the country would learn a lot about its offense after playing the San Francisco 49ers, and, boy, did we.

"We've got to be complete," Lamb said after the Cowboys' 42-10 loss to the 49ers Sunday. "We can't go out there one week and look like a super team, and then the following week, (bleep) the bed."

Last week, the Cowboys torched the New England Patriots' secondary for 253 passing yards. Against San Francisco, Dallas notched 197 yards total — 140 through the air and 57 on the ground.

Dallas moved the chains just eight times in stark contrast to San Francisco's 25. The Cowboys possessed the ball for just 22 minutes — the fewest time of possession the Cowboys have had in a game since a 30-16 loss to the Denver Broncos Nov. 7, 2021 — due in large part to the four first-half three-and-outs and four turnovers.

Quarterback Dak Prescott was 14-for-24 for 153 yards, three interceptions while getting sacked three times for 13 yards in his "most humbling game." His lone touchdown was a 26-yard pitch-and-catch to wide receiver KaVontae Turpin.

Dallas' 57-yard rushing game was its worst since Week 17 of the 2021 season, but that's a byproduct of how one dimensional the Cowboys' offense had to become after digging themselves into a 21-7 hole after the first half.

Heading into Sunday night's matchup, it felt as if that would be the barometer for where the Cowboys and 49ers stand within the hierarchy of the NFC. Dallas' season is obviously not doomed after the egg it laid in primetime, but its next three games against the Los Angeles Chargers, Rams and Philadelphia Eagles will show the Cowboys' true colors offensively.

"We've got to finish out," Lamb said. "We've got 12 other games to compete in. We got blown out …”

“Blown out” is a polite phrase. “Soiling the sheets” (or something like that) is not. Both, however, do indeed apply.
