Cowboys Schedule Matchups: 3 We Wish For; Playoffs, Maybe?

The Dallas Cowboys will have to wait until the postseason to potentially face these intriguing teams.

In addition to the three other NFC East teams, the Dallas Cowboys will also have matchups with the New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins on their 2023 slate of games. 

Still, there are a few teams not on the 2023 schedule that would have been intriguing matchups for Dak Prescott and the Cowboys. Here's three:

Kansas City Chiefs

The Cowboys may be America's team, but Patrick Mahomes is the face of the NFL and already one of the greatest quarterbacks the sport has ever seen. A Cowboys-Chiefs matchup would probably be the highest-rated game of the season. Perhaps we'll see it in Super Bowl LVIII. 

Cleveland Browns

The Browns -- despite him facing a world of legal trouble -- gave up a franchise-altering trade package to acquire Deshaun Watson and issued him a fully-guaranteed five-year deal on the way in the door. They did that knowing the 2022 season may very well be a wash, and it was, as Watson was suspended for the first 11 games of the campaign. Whether Watson, still only 27, will be able to recapture the elite form he once showed with the Houston Texans is going to be one of the most intriguing storylines of the 2023 season. From a Cowboys perspective, getting to face off with Amari Cooper -- especially if Dallas continues to struggle to get production from wide receivers not named CeeDee Lamb -- would be fun to see. 

Cincinnati Bengals

Like with the Chiefs, the Cowboys chances of winning the NFC East and the top seed in the conference are better for not playing against the Bengals. But Joe Burrow and Cincinnati have become one of the league's best measuring sticks, and to be able to make a Super Bowl run, you need to prove you can best teams like the Bengals.
