Cowboys Scouting Combine Preview: What to Get the Team That Has (Almost) Everything?

The Dallas Cowboys arrive in Indianapolis with ugly playoff results, but also an impressive two-year run and few roster holes.

No way around it, over the last two years the Dallas Cowboys have dominated the NFL's regular season with:

*24 victories, behind only the Kansas City Chiefs (26).

*77 defensive takeaways, most in the league.

*997 offensive points, most in the league.

*15 players in the Pro Bowl, second only to the Chiefs (16).

While teams will similar accolades - such as the Buffalo Bills (24 wins), Philadelphia Eagles (23), San Francisco 49ers (23) and Cincinnati Bengals (22) - have enjoyed post-season success and even made, or won, a Super Bowl, somehow the Cowboys' accomplishments and strong statistics have produced only one Wild Card win.

Gut-wrenching playoff failure be damned, as the Cowboys and their bus roll into Indianapolis for this week's NFL Scouting Combine they are far from a broken team desperately in need of help at every position. As they get up-close-and-personal looks at the incoming 2023 rookie crop, the Cowboys fully realize that after 12-5 seasons ended with losses to the 49ers this is a do-or-die season for head coach Mike McCarthy.

Just how "intrigued" are the Cowboys by Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud? In upcoming free agency do they find a way to keep both running backs Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott? Will Odell Beckham finally arrive in Frisco? And what positions, in particular, does owner Jerry Jones want to upgrade?

“It’s across the board,” Jones said recently about his team's needs. “I like our safeties. It would be hard to break into that group with a high draft pick.”

Though there is no isolated glaring need, on offense the Cowboys could use a receiver, running back, tight end and lineman. Defensively they will look to add a defensive end, linebacker and cornerback.
