Cowboys Trail Seahawks At Half; Can Offense Keep Pace?

The Dallas Cowboys head into the locker room behind once again, trailing the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 at halftime

For the second straight week, the Dallas Cowboys head into the locker room at a deficit as they trail the Seattle Seahawks 17-7 at halftime.

After falling behind 3-0 early, Dallas put together a nice drive early in the second quarter to briefly take the lead. Quarterback Cooper Rush led the Cowboys 80 yards on 17 plays, capping off the drive with a six yard pass to running back Rico Dowdle to put Dallas up 7-3.

The Seahawks' offense responded well, though, rattling off back-to-back touchdown drives. The first drive went 75 yards on six plays, with the bulk of those yards coming on a 48-yard pass from quarterback Drew Lock to receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. On the very next play, Seahawks running back DeeJay Dallas punched it in from a yard out to put Seattle back on top.

The next drive, the Seahawks went 80 yards on six plays again to add to their lead. Lock again had some passes for big gains, while rookie running back SaRodrorick Thompson Jr. finished off the drive with another one-yard rush.

Despite the 10-point deficit, Dallas' offense has kept pace for the most part. The Cowboys have 173 yards and 10 first downs at the half, compared to the Seahawks' 223 yards and 11 first downs. Dallas is also slightly winning the time-of-possesion battle, holding the ball for just under 17 minutes.

Rush put together a solid performance in just two drives, completing nine of 14 passes for 97 yards and a touchdown. Dowdle has 38 yards on eight carries, while fellow running back Malik Davis added 32 yards on eight carries. Receiver Jalen Tolbert has 66 yards on four catches as he continues to make his case as the Cowboys' No. 3 receiver.

For Seattle, Lock completed five of six passes for 119 yards, while starter Geno Smith also completed five of six attempts for 46 yards. Smith-Njigba has a team-high 58 receiving yards on three catches, while another rookie, running back Zach Charbonnet, leads the Seahawks in rushing with 31 yards on three carries.

The Cowboys also suffered an unfortunate injury when rookie linebacker DeMarvion Overshown exited with pain in his knee. He is out for the remainder of the game.

Dallas will get the ball to start the half as it looks to cut into a two-score deficit.
