Should Dallas Cowboys Sign Anthony Brown as Trevon Diggs Replacement?

The Cowboys' Pro Bowl standout Trevon Diggs sustained an ACL tear at practice and is out for the season. ... leading to a natural question: Should Dallas re-sign Anthony Brown?

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys long ago made the tough decision and moved on from Anthony Brown, who went down with a torn Achilles late last year, ending his season.

“I'm sick for him,'' Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said at the time.

And now the Cowboys have another cornerback to be "sick'' about, as Pro Bowl standout Trevon Diggs sustained an ACL tear at practice and is out for the season. ... leading to a natural question: Should Dallas re-sign Brown?

Brown - the 2016 sixth-round pick who we have often labeled as “ballsy” for his willingness to fight through injuries - has bounced around this fall, spending a minute with the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers and then this week, leaving the Steelers to sign on to the San Francisco 49ers' 53-man roster ... only to be cut a day later.

We know Brown - who was preparing to enter this offseason as a free agent and certainly receive a payday - had been working vigorously in rehab, even sometimes doing some of his rehab here in Frisco at team headquarters at The Star. So there is a connection. But ...

Jane Slater of NFL Network reports that Dallas re-signing Brown "is not an option,'' the logic being that at least for now, the Cowboys feel fortified enough at the position even in the wake of the Diggs injury with the trade for Stephon Gilmore, with starting snaps for DaRon Bland (on the outside) and with starting snaps for Jourdan Lewis (in the slot).

But if “AB” has established that he’s again healthy? Maybe the best answer on the "ballsy" Brown should be as much a "not right now'' as it is a "no.''
