Cowboys Sign ‘Prospect X’: Most Overlooked Player in NFL Draft!’
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys made eight total selections in the 2023 NFL Draft, but in preparation for the rookie minicamp that opens today here inside The Star, they also added 13 players as undrafted free agents.
And one of them comes with an unusual billing.
David Durden, a University of West Florida product, is a 6-1 receiver who was the “secret subject” of a 2,500-word feature that called him the “most overlooked player” in the 2023 NFL Draft … and “Prospect X,” in an article that showed his stats and metrics without revealing his identity … all without the hype. And all without revealing his identity.
The concept: Durden is a record-breaking player with standout traits, but because he played at a small school (West Florida), was going to become a steal in the draft.
And now maybe the Cowboys are the team that will benefit.
In 2021, Durden totaled 787 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 34 catches in nine games - an eye-popping 23 yards per reception. He did even more in 2022, with 1,128 receiving yards and a school-record 13 touchdowns. Durden also showed punt return skills, averaging 17.7 yards per return and scoring a touchdown.
Who heads the list of kids at The Star this weekend?

Now, moving forward, keep track of the Cowboys' UDFA rookie signings below...

Durden making the roster is not yet about competing with the likes of CeeDee Lamb. First, he’s got to use his 4.45 speed to survive minicamp. … but he tells The Athletic he Is ready.
“I’ve never really needed a lot of motivation to want to play the game of football,” Durden said. “But this just will make it that much more fun to go out there and prove it: ‘Hey, you didn’t pick me.’ I’m ready to run into somebody.”
And maybe to put a real name on “Project X.”
