Cowboys BREAKING: 1st-Round Linebacker Rashaan Evans Signing with Dallas
FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys are planning to place starting linebacker Leighton Vander Esch on injured reserve this week, and along with that move comes a movement led by personnel boss Will McClay to find qualified help to fill in.
On Wednesday, the Cowboys are launching into that process by bringing in free agent linebacker Rashaan Evans for a visit here at The Star.
And yes, Evans - as a former first-round pick in 2018 by the Tennessee Titans - has some of those qualifications. … with the Dallas News reporting that a signing is planned.
Evans (6-2 and 232 pounds) played four successful seasons with the Titans and in 2022, moved to Atlanta and started all 17 games for the Falcons, where he totaled up a career-high 159 tackles along with a pair of sacks.
The Dallas News notes that the workout also includes Tanner Vallejo, Jordan Evans and Brandon Smith.
Evans is still just 27, but the Alabama product has bounced around waiting for his 2023 chance. He was most recently with the Philadelphia Eagles as a member of their practice squad in September before getting cut shortly thereafter.
Is Evans a fit for the Cowboys? With Vander Esch out, an off the ball linebacker is needed, with Dallas thin there alongside developing second-year man Damone Clark.
The Cowboys have also discussed moving Micah Parsons to a spot where he might be playing more linebacker and a bit less as an edge rusher.
