'Prove It!' Dallas Cowboys' Stephon Gilmore Reveals Mindset for Buffalo Bills Visit
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Stephon Gilmore is still in the "prove-it" business - this despite being the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, a 12-year vet, two-time All-Pro, and a Super Bowl champion.
Fresh off his time-traveling performance against Philadelphia Eagles receiver AJ Brown as he locked him down while forcing a fumble in the 33-13 win, Gilmore goes out every week to show people there's still gas left in the tank.
And going by his efforts against Philadelphia, that tank isn't empty yet.
“I just trying to prove myself ... it's just a little bit more fire I guess,” Gilmore said.
After Brown called Gilmore "old'' at the outset of that game, the veteran cornerback (age 33) took it upon himself to make life heck for the Eagles receiver. And while Brown caught nine passes for 94 yards, he did not affect the game as "Gilly's Island" returned with a vengeance.
Now, Gilmore is gearing up to face his first and former team, the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. there could be another blockbuster matchup with Stefon Diggs awaiting.
Said Gilmore: “They got Josh Allen, a great quarterback, he can throw the ball, he got a strong arm, he can run the ball. They got good receivers, so it's going to be a big challenge for us but I think we'll be ready.”
After Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf torched DaRon Bland a couple of weeks ago, Gilmore shifted over and kept Metcalf quiet. Against the Eagles, Stephon wanted Brown from the outset.
“I told them I wanted him,” Gilmore said. “Because you know the ball will go to him and you can make plays."
With Diggs being a key weapon for Allen as he has had 11 targets in back-to-back games, maybe Quinn will send Gilmore to Diggs and force someone else to beat them.
'I Wanted A.J. Brown!' 'Old' Gilmore Extinguishes Eagles
Gilmore wound back the clock against the Eagles and with the mindset of proving to everyone that he can still be a viable contributor, he's locked on and ready to go.
But a PSA for Diggs if Gilmore does make his way to him on Sunday, don't call him "old'' ... Wait, actually do, and that fire will again be lit as Gilmore will again, have another "prove-it" game for the Cowboys.
