Talking 'Bleep!' Dallas Cowboys' Dak Prescott Trolls Eagles & 49ers in Colon Cancer PSA With Ryan Reynolds: WATCH
Wolverine, Elektra ... Dak Prescott?
Ryan Reynolds has amassed a Pro Bowl roster for nerds for his upcoming film "Deadpool 3," which will bring his mutant mercenary character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Reynolds holstered his katanas to battle the real-world issue of colon cancer, enlisting the help of the Dallas Cowboys quarterback along the way.
Prescott unveiled a humorous public service announcement that encourages viewers to get screened for colon cancer with the help of the Cologuard at-home test. The video, produced in conjunction with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance non-profit organization and Reynolds creative agency Maximum Effort, has Prescott "talking (bleep) while getting some not-so-subtle jabs in against his competition.
"As a professional quarterback, I get a lot of (bleep)," Prescott says in the ad's opening. "I get it: when you're not a fan of something, (bleep)ing on it can make you feel good. But what if I told you that now, it can do some good, too?"
In (cleanly) demonstrating the use and operation of the Cologuard screening, which uses a stool sample to detect traces of colon cancer DNA, Prescott encourages those prescribed to place a sticker of "something that want to (bleep) on" on the underside of the test to reduce the stigma and stress behind the process. Prescott's suggestions include "marine life," "old-timey prospectors," and "large predatory American birds."
It doesn't take a football expert to realize that Prescott is respectively referring to the Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers, and Philadelphia Eagles. The ad, in fact, is set to be featured during Sunday night's monumental clash between Prescott's Cowboys and the Eagles, a game set to drastically alter the NFC playoff picture (7:20 p.m. CT, NBC).
Prescott's famous "Here we go!" cadence is likewise referenced as he demonstrates how to set up the device.
"It's that easy to get screened for colon cancer and make your feelings abundantly clear," Prescott says.
In conclusion, a tongue-in-cheek voiceover from Reynolds notes that Prescott himself would not use a home-test kit but that the cause was so close to him that he "agreed to star in this video without any concern to his safety." As Reynolds speaks, the sample Cologuard kit features a sticker of his unmasked Deadpool character, to which he declares "I definitely deserved that."
Prescott is the latest famous participant in Reynolds' efforts to raise awareness of colon cancer, a campaign known as "LEAD FROM BEHIND." Previous public figures involved include actors Terry Crews ("Everybody Hates Chris") and Rob McElhenney ("It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia").
“I’d like to thank Dak for joining Rob McElhenney, Terry Crews, and me in helping raise awareness for dropping your drawers,” Reynolds said in a release shared with CowboysSI.com. “This is a highly preventable cancer and the more we advocate for and destigmatize the colorectal screening process, the more real lives are saved.”
Our Saddest Mother's Day: A Time of Dual Loss For Cowboys Prescott
The cause is particularly personal for Prescott, whose mother Peggy passed away from colon cancer in 2013.
“Losing my mother to colon cancer was devastating, and no one should have to go through that,” Prescott said in a statement shared with CowboysSI.com. “That’s why I started the colon cancer screening and research pillar of my Faith Fight Finish Foundation. Partnering with the Colorectal Cancer Alliance and LEAD FROM BEHIND is another way I can let people, especially Black Americans who are at greater risk, know that colon cancer is preventable and there are a variety of screening options.”
