Cowboys at Titans: Dak Prescott, Malik Davis, Ryan Tannehill to IR - 3 to Watch
Despite having already secured a playoff berth, Dallas Cowboys still have dreams of a NFC East crown, thanks to their 40-34 victory over the division leading Philadelphia Eagles on Christmas Eve. Albeit a long shot, Dallas can take the division title with some help. However, they must win their final two games.
As such, they have plenty for which to play as they prepare to face off against the Tennessee Titans on Thursday night in Week 17 of the 2022 NFL season.
Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. CT at Nissan Stadium.
Though many of Dallas’ most notables are expected to garner some attention during this upcoming matchup, here are three players that might raise an eyebrow when the Cowboys take the field against the Titans.
Dak Prescott
Prescott enters Thursday’s matchup having completed 27 of 35 passes for 347 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the Cowboys' win over the Eagles on Saturday. He also rushed six times for 41 yards, Despite his fumble, the veteran signal-caller should find success on the road against the Titans. Tennessee’s defense has allowed 26 passing touchdowns, second most in the NFL. With the division and even top seed still in play, Prescott will aim to keep Dallas in contention by utilizing top targets such as CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup.
Malik Davis
With Tony Pollard having been ruled out for Week 17 as he tends to a thigh injury, the onus of Dallas’ running game will be on rushers Ezekiel Elliott and rookie Malik Davis.
Though Elliott will get the majority of the early carries, Davis could be in line to see more opportunities. Most of Davis' opportunities to date this season have come in garbage-time scenarios, with the rookie carrying 23 times for 103 yards (an average of 4.5 yards-per-attempt) and a touchdown He has also added four receptions for 40 yards on five targets across 47 total snaps on offense.
As a result, the rookie may be poised to provide an adequate complement to Elliott on Thursday night.
Dallas Cornerbacks
As quarterback Ryan Tannehill heads for injured reserve, the Titans are focusing their efforts on entering their Week 18 matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars in optimal health. As a result, they have decided to preserve expected starter Malik Willis in favor of veteran backup Joshua Dobbs.
Dobbs has appeared in six regular-season games in his career, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 Draft. He has completed 10 of 17 pass attempts for 45 yards and an interception in those games. With Thursday being Dobbs’ first career start, the Cowboys secondary, particularly cornerbacks Travon Diggs and DaRon Bland, will have their sharp eyes fixed on Dobbs’ game management skills.
