Cowboys Terence Steele Beats Deadline, Lineman Signs Contract

Terence Steele received a second-round restricted free agent tender and has now signed his contract with the Cowboys.

FRISCO - Terence Steele deserves about as much credit as any member of the Dallas Cowboys in recent memory for having "made himself into an NFL player.'' And now the former undrafted rookie free agent from Texas Tech is, relatively speaking, going to start making some real money.

Steele, who a month ago received a second-round restricted free agent tender from the Cowboys, on Thursday signed the deal just ahead of the Friday deadline to do so.

The fourth-year tackle's agreement locks him in at a second-tier RFA price, which gives him a $4.3M salary for the 2023 season, pending the opportunity for both sides to negotiate a longer-term deal.

Steele is working on completing rehab from his 2022 season ACL surgery, but the team's medical staff is confident that he is ahead of schedule and should be ready to play in 2023 ... whether that is at his most customary spot as the starting right tackle or, given the depth Dallas has at the position in the offensive line, in another role.

Steele made $895,000 last year, and as an offensive lineman who many believe is now one of the best run-blockers in the NFL, that was a bargain. Indeed, depending on his role in 2023, with All-Pro Tyron Smith maybe taking over at right tackle and young stud Tyler Smith at left tackle, Steele could get a look at left guard or he could become the team's swing tackle.

But no matter Steele's fate, he is likely to remain a bargain, even after increasing his base salary by this great amount.
