FRISCO - Terrell Owens is indisputably one of the NFL's greatest-ever receivers, so his thoughts on the legends of the position carry some weight here. "T.O.'' who starred with the Dallas Cowboys and elsewhere on the way to his Hall of Fame career, is indisputably also one of the sport's most colorful and controversial figures ...

So when he's asked to name the greatest wideouts ever? Yes. Color and controversy is what you get.

"Jerry Rice, myself, Larry Fitzgerald, Randy Moss ... Fifth is always tough. It's always tough... Calvin Johnson,'' Owens said in an appearance on Jalen Rose's latest podcast, "Renaissance Man," when asked to offer his thoughts on who he thinks are the greatest at his position - a top five list, essentially.

"Those five,'' Owens continued, "not necessarily in that order, but me, Jerry and Randy I would say we're top three. And I'm gonna put myself top two.''

There is nothing especially wrong with this list. We see other athletes do this and when they forget to mention the 49ers' Rice, they are leaving off the GOAT at the position. We don't hear many mention the Cardinals' Fitzgerald, but again, there is noting "wrong'' about favoring him.

And we will say - though we can tell you that at times it doesn't seem like Owens and Michael Irvin are best pals - anybody with any sort of Cowboys-related awareness is making a mistake to fail to consider "The Playmaker'' on such a list.

In the visit, by the way, Owens also talks about his road to the NFL, and it is ... well, colorful, as expected. It includes an admission of sorts.

"I wasn't a great athlete when I grew up and when I came out of high school even," T.O. said. "I didn't think I was a great athlete coming out of college. I never knew that I was going to eventually become a Hall of Famer. That was never really on my radar."

In the end, Owens did all of that, finishing his career as a top-three performer in all-time receiving yards and touchdowns. ... enough to legitimize his "myself'' inclusion on his list.
