Cowboys Tony Pollard 'Ready To Go’; Can RB Carry Zeke-Like Load?
The Dallas Cowboys training camp program is off and running in Oxnard with many eyes glued to see how running back Tony Pollard is physically after his leg injury suffered in the playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers last season.
What was noticeable very early on is that Pollard is showing no effects of his injury and rubber stamps what a source told CowboysSi.com that there have been no setbacks in Pollard's recovery.
But after such an injury, how is Pollard feeling after the first day of training camp?
"Right now, I'm feeling pretty good, pretty healthy," Pollard said. "Just being smart with the trainers, not trying to push it. Just trying to ease back into things and just go from there."
Easing back into the swing of things is the right move, given how much will be placed on Pollard's shoulders this season. With no Ezekiel Elliott, Pollard is now "the guy" and the leader of the room.
There have been some questions as to whether the former Memphis star can carry the workload that is expected of him.
While he posted a career-high in rushing yards (1,007) and touchdowns (9), Pollard only had 15 or more carries just three times, including the postseason last year.
So what does he say to those who doubt his ability to shoulder much of the responsibility?
"Whatever they throw at me, I can handle," Pollard said. "I'm ready to go. I'll make the most of it."
With Donovan Wilson succumbing to a calf strain on the first day, the warning signs are already showing themselves, and with Pollard being so crucial to Mike McCarthy's Texas Coast Offense, the slow play is the right move, despite Pollard wanting to be full-go already.
