Let's 'Pound the Ball!' Cowboys' Tony Pollard Plan For Packers in NFL Playoffs
Dallas Cowboys running back Tony Pollard hasn't had the season he expected for himself in his first as the undisputed lead back, but that doesn't mean it was a failure at all.
With 70 yards in Sunday's win over the Washington Commanders, Pollard was just barely able to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the second straight season. Granted, it took a lot more attempts than last season, but he still got there all the same and fulfilled a huge goal for him and the team.
"It's a big milestone for us, for myself and for the O-line," Pollard said after Sunday's game. "I know they pride themselves in having a 1,000-yard back every year, so that was big for us, and to get that momentum going."
Even if Pollard hasn't been as efficient as he has in the past, the Cowboys have still put together an effective ground game that ranks 14th in rushing yards per game. It may not be the league's best, but it's more than good enough to complement the Cowboys' high-flying aerial attack.
That balance was on full display against Washington on Sunday, a 38-10 win that clinched the NFC East and the conference's No. 2 seed for Dallas. With 309 passing yards and 131 rushing yards, the Cowboys were able to attack the Commanders' defense from every angle en route to a dominant win.
With the playoffs beginning, Pollard knows that the Cowboys will have to maintain a similar balance to find success.
Pollard Finishes Strong, Hits Milestone in Cowboys Win
"In this league, it's something you have to do in the playoffs," Pollard said. "When it's December football and it's cold, and in January, you've gotta be able to pound the ball and be able to throw the ball [as well].
"Being able to show it was big."
