Tony Romo Scouts Dak Prescott & Cowboys Roster: 'Dallas Was Right There!'

Longtime Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo speaks on his former team and successor Dak Prescott … and the quality of the roster.

When Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott took over the starting role from longtime signal caller Tony Romo, he knew it'd be a tough act to follow.

"He's got some big shoes for me to fill to try to come in and do a good job for the Cowboys," Prescott said in 2017.

And he wasn't wrong about being a successor to Romo, the Cowboys franchise-leader in yards (34,183), while also being named to four Pro Bowls and starting 127 games for Dallas over his 13-year career.

Over his seven years behind center, Prescott has done a satisfactory job living up to Romo - throwing for 24,943 yards, 166 touchdowns while being named a two-time Pro Bowler.

However, after tying the league-lead with 15 interceptions in just 12 games, Romo spoke on his predecessor's mistake-riddled season.

"That’s still falls on you,” Romo said at the Las Colinas Country Club on Thursday. “But that’s why you play quarterback. It’s your job to overcome it, figure it out. But you evaluate every one, and then you go back in and put yourself in that situation, where you literally think about what you thought before the play, the situation, what was the score?"

Despite Prescott's woes, the Cowboys still rattled off their second consecutive 12-win campaign and reached the NFC Divisional Round before falling to San Francisco 49ers.

"Dallas was right there, you know, with the Eagles, with the Chiefs and everyone else," Romo said. "But it’s why you go get certain people and individuals to be able to create those. And that includes coaching staff, front office, players, everyone involved, and I just think they’re just that player or two away. And that’s played out, obviously for a few years now.”

Posting an 0-3 mark in the Divisional Round over his career, Romo is familiar with the current feeling in the Cowboys locker room.

And these remarks should not only light a spark under Prescott, but the entire roster in search of their first NFC Championship appearance since the 1995-1996 season.
