Brandin Cooks Speaks Out On Trade: 'Joining Cowboys is Special!'

“I feel better at this age than I’ve ever felt. With the way I take care of my body, there’s no slowing down any time.” - New Dallas Cowboys receiver Brandin Cooks.

FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys got their guy in wide receiver Brandin Cooks ... and in a Sunday trade involving the Houston Texans standout, Brandin Cooks got his wish.

“Honestly, I just feel blessed really for this opportunity to contribute to something that’s already special,” Cooks told KPRC 2 in Houston shortly after the completion of the swap. “For the (Cowboys owner Jerry) Jones family believing in me and the coaches and players, I look forward to joining something that’s special and to help bring that mindset everywhere I go.”

Dallas gets the proven 1,000-yard receiver in exchange for a fifth-round pick this year and a sixth-round pick in 2024, along with a financial break, as the Texans are paying $6 million of Cooks' $18 million guaranteed salary.

Cooks believes he is joining a Super Bowl contender in Dallas, something that nearly happened at the trade deadline last October. He also promises that at age 29, he's physically ready to perform at a high level in the Dak Prescott-led offense.

“No doubt,” Cooks said. “I feel better at this age than I’ve ever felt. With the way I take care of my body, there’s no slowing down any time.”

This swap gives Cowboys quarterback Prescott another proven target as a running mate alongside CeeDee Lamb, with Cooks' speciality being his "take the top off the defense'' speed; he has in the past run the 40-yard dash in 4.33 seconds.

Cooks in 2021 caught a career-high 90 passes for 1,037 yards and six touchdowns. That sort of promise now exists again for him.

The Texans in the last three seasons have a record of 11-38-1. Cooks expressed a desire with Houston management to escape that. Now he comes to a Dallas team with a record of 24-10 in the last two years under coach Mike McCarthy, who is installing his new West Coast Offense this spring.

Cooks wants to achieve the ultimate team goal, winning a Super Bowl.

“That’s always the goal,” Cooks said. “Not going to talk about it, just trust the process and that’s the ultimate goal.”
